Install/Uninstall

In order to accomplish the installation of GrindEQ Math Utilities you must have the (Local) Administrative Rights on your computer. Thus, acquire the (Local) Administrative Rights on your computer prior to running Install or Uninstall (e.g. login as Administrator or quick switch to Administrator account).

Install

  1. Close Microsoft Word. It is strongly recommended that you close all other running applications.
  2. Run 'GrindEQ_Math_Utilities_N.exe' (where N is the version) and follow the installation instructions.
  3. After the installation of GrindEQ Math Utilities is complete, GrindEQ Math menu item appears on Microsoft Word menu.
  4. If you want to use GrindEQ Math Utilities under another account, you must re-login under the desired account and enable GrindEQ Math Utilities via Start | Programs | GrindEQ Math Utilities | GrindEQ Options by pressing Enable button in Microsoft Word integration section. In this case the Administrative Rights are NOT required.
  5. Some antiviruses block GrindEQ Math Utilities execution, because of Microsoft Word macros being used. To allow GrindEQ Math Utilities to work properly the execution of macros should be permitted in the antivirus software settings.
  6. If Microsoft Word Security system gives a notice about new macros found, please register GrindEQ Certificate.

Uninstall

To completely remove GrindEQ Math Utilities from your system follow these steps:

  1. Close Microsoft Word.
  2. Run Uninstall GrindEQ from GrindEQ Math Utilities folder (accessed via Start | Programs | GrindEQ Math Utilities | Uninstall GrindEQ).

– OR –

  1. Close Microsoft Word.
  2. Open Contol Panel and start Add or Remove Programs.
  3. Select GrindEQ Math Utilities (remove only).

Notes

If GrindEQ Math menu item still appears on Microsoft Word menu, remove the template files 'GrindEQ.dot' and 'GrindEQ.dotm' from Microsoft Word Startup folder manually. To locate the current Startup folder select Tools | Options... | File Locations from Microsoft Word menu (Word 97/2000/XP/2003) or Word Options | Advanced | File Locations... (Word 2007). Close Microsoft Word before removing 'GrindEQ.dot' and 'GrindEQ.dotm'.

GrindEQ Certificate

GrindEQ Math Utilities are signed with a digital certificate. If Microsoft Word Security system gives a notice about new macros found, please register GrindEQ Certificate (the registration of GrindEQ Certificate is free of charge). GrindEQ converters can be used without macros (therefore without a Certificate registration) from Save As... or Open dialogs.

Troubleshooting

Math menu item is not available

If GrindEQ Math menu item is not available on Microsoft Word menu, please enable GrindEQ Math Utilities via Start | Programs | GrindEQ Math Utilities | GrindEQ Options by pressing Enable button in Microsoft Word integration section.

If GrindEQ Math menu item is still not available, probably the template files 'GrindEQ.dot' and 'GrindEQ.dotm' (for Word 2007 only) are blocked by other templates. Try to uncheck some templates in Templates and Add-Ins window accessed via Tools | Templates and Add-Ins... from Microsoft Word menu (Word 97/2000/XP/2003) or Word Options | Add-Ins | Manage: Templates | Go... (Word 2007).

If GrindEQ Math menu item is still not available, copy the template files 'GrindEQ.dot' and 'GrindEQ.dotm' (for Word 2007 only), which can be found in the 'main' folder on the GrindEQ installation path, to Microsoft Word Startup folder. To locate the current Startup folder select Tools | Options... | File Locations from Microsoft Word menu (Word 97/2000/XP/2003) or Word Options | Advanced | File Locations... (Word 2007). Close Microsoft Word before copying the template files.

Antiviruses

Some antiviruses block GrindEQ Math Utilities execution, because of Microsoft Word macros being used. To allow GrindEQ Math Utilities to work properly the execution of macros should be permitted in the antivirus software settings. Probably you will need to acquire the (Local) Administrative Rights on the computer to accomplish this.

No images in LaTeX document

You should download the latest version of an interpreter for PostScript page description language. See more on Adobe Home Page http://www.adobe.com and Ghostscript Home Page http://www.ghostscript.com. Verify PostScript settings of the selected printer. Please note, most LaTeX compilers require Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) option to be turned on in Printer Properties.

If you use PDF for LaTeX output, you should apply pdftex option of graphicx package (\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx}) and include epstopdf package (\usepackage{epstopdf}). You should also convert image files to PDF with 'epstopdf.exe' ('epstopdf image.eps'), which probably can be found in your LaTeX compiler folder (for MiKTeX, this is 'MiKTeX\miktex\bin\epstopdf.exe').

No images in Microsoft Word document

Make sure to supply the linked image files with the document, or convert the linked pictures to embedded pictures. Follow these steps:

  • Open Links dialog accessed via Edit | Links from Microsoft Word menu (Word 97/2000/XP/2003) or Office Button | Prepare | Edit Links to Files (Word 2007);
  • Select files (you can select the first one, then the last one holding Shift button for a group selection), check Save picture in document option and press Update Now button.

Note, you should have the appropriate Microsoft Word image filters installed to see images in your document. If you're unable to see images in your document, download and install the latest Microsoft Office File Converter Pack from Microsoft Corporation.

Corrupted symbols

Some of math symbols cannot be represented using standard fonts. This is the reason why MathType uses Euclid fonts. If you use Microsoft Equation 3.x, it is recommended to install freeware Euclid fonts, which can be downloaded from www.mathtype.com.

To create GrindEQ system report press Create button accessed via Math | Options from Microsoft Word menu or Start | Programs | GrindEQ Math Utilities | GrindEQ Options. You can also create GrindEQ system report by running 'dump.exe' in the 'main' folder on the GrindEQ installation path. The default encoding of the report is Unicode (UTF-16LE).
